A Celebration of Visionary Leadership and Youth Empowerment in Sri Lanka

As we move closer to the heart of 2025, Sri Lanka proudly carries the torch of innovation and sustainability, with its professionals and young minds alike stepping up to make meaningful impacts in various fields.

CIPM's Esteemed Lifetime Gold Award for an HR Icon

The National Human Resource Conference (NHRC) 2025, Sri Lanka's flagship HR event, commenced on a high note with the presentation of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Sri Lanka's Lifetime Gold Award. This prestigious award, the highest individual recognition in Sri Lanka’s HR sphere, lauds visionaries who have made substantial contributions towards the growth and enhancement of the HR profession on organizational, national, and international scales.

This year, the Lifetime Gold Medal was awarded to Ken Vijayakumar, a stalwart in the HR industry with over three decades of service. Known as a "people’s leader," Ken's leadership has left an indelible imprint on CIPM and the broader HR community. He has consistently empowered teams, mentored future professionals, and has made a lasting legacy with his innovative and inclusive approach to leadership.

Neptune Recyclers Igniting a Youth-led Sustainability Movement

Meanwhile, fostering environmental responsibility has also been on the agenda, with Neptune Recyclers marking a milestone by launching Neptune EduCycle, a youth-oriented outreach programme. This initiative is designed to inspire a cultural shift in plastic waste management, starting with the youth.

The programme, which focuses on the recycling of PET plastic bottles, aims to drive a nationwide movement in sustainability. It has been successful in driving the habit of daily recycling among young people, moulding them into sustainability ambassadors in their schools, homes and communities.

Neptune Recyclers is a company with a strong commitment to sustainable waste management. They envision their EduCycle programme as the start of a journey where students inspire their peers, communities and lay the foundation for a cleaner, greener Sri Lanka.

Online Safety, Privacy, and Global Partnerships

Sri Lanka is also taking steps towards establishing online safety and data protection laws, urging legislators to reach a bipartisan consensus. This move is critical in safeguarding personal information in the digital space and promoting responsible online behaviour.

Further afield, there is a global call for the rethinking of power and partnerships in the Global South. Seventy years after the Bandung Conference, this region is facing a range of challenges, including economic coercion and militarised borders.

Sri Lankan Life Stories

At a more grassroots level, there are beautiful stories unfolding all over Sri Lanka. A bhikkhu residing in a serene monastery in Balangoda shares his tranquil life in the hills, while environmentalists and scientists alike are reminding us of the importance of our oceans and their sustainable management.

Each of these narratives, initiatives and awards contribute to the rich tapestry of Sri Lanka. They reflect a nation that is continually evolving, striving for excellence and sustainable growth, while nurturing its next generation of leaders and innovators.
